Mel Smothers - the exhibition 'History Paintings' of the latest paintings by the artist.

“My creative subjects are inherited with the times and drawn from personal narratives and sources that span art history. They reflect my interest in philosophy and contemporary thought.”

“The influence on this series of paintings is the journal of French Academy painter Eugene Delacroix in 1850’s. In it, he expresses his frustration with our species’ need to build up democratic institutions and culture only to be destroyed by fear and ignorance again and again at the cost of human suffering." - Mel Smothers

Mel also exhibits at Art Lives Here, and Carter-Burden Gallery, New York City. Hay Hill Gallery, London. TAG Gallery Los Angeles. JAG Gallery, Key West Florida and Archival Gallery, Sacramento, California. In 2006 he was selected to ‘Artists of Year,’ exhibition at Cooper-Union, NYC. He has taught Art at the University of California, University of Idaho and University of Nevada. He has a hard-to-find studio along the shore in Lake Tahoe.
